Summary:

Studio Luke 15 is an animation and music production collective that creates, promotes and shows animated short films and music compositions for film festivals and the Internet.

As the studio’s name suggests, artistic “prodigal sons”, returning to their respective industries after experience in sales and customer service, lead Studio Luke 15. It is the background in business and the arts that will help the studio survive as an independent animation and music production group.

Dear Investor,

I am writing let you know about Little Songs of Long Ago, an animated short film that I am producing.  I am also writing to introduce you to Studio Luke 15, a new animation and music production studio I have launched, to create films for festival release, new media and the Internet.  I’m creating this film with local jazz musician mastermind, Michael Mavilia.

We have a lot of support for this film, including Mary Kathryn Severin of The Virginia Film Commission, The Washington D.C. chapter of the Animation Co-Op, Mr. Frank Lunn of the Rosen Feig Golland & Lunn LLP law firm of Beverly Hills, we are members of the Young Professionals of Central Virginia, we are hosting a promotional booth at Day in the Park in Lynchburg, Virginia and we are working with the Amazement Square Children’s Museum to premiere the film and to plan educational workshops based on the filmLittle Songs of Long Ago is also a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. We’ve also received inspiration and advice from Nina Paley, who partially funded her animated feature film Sita Sings The Blues with online donations. A special thank you to everyone who has generously helped us!

We are at a crucial stage in planning our short film.  We are currently finishing up the script for the film and are preparing to create our storyboards (planning the look of the film).  We will soon begin animating on this project early next year.

To move forward at this point in our project, we need your help.

We require new equipment to create the animation and to compose the music.  The ability to do this comes with increased costs. We require computers that are able to handle the level of work we plan to do, and computer programs to create the animation and compose the music and sound effects.  We can handle some of these needs, however we simply cannot handle all these costs alone. Our studio is a startup company and without the equipment we need, the film will not happen without outside financial help.

We need your help quickly as well. With Amazement Square and our fiscal sponsorship, we qualify for certain grants that would handle most of the funding we need. However, to be eligible to apply for those grants, Fractured Atlas requires that we have at least $1,000 in support for the project first. We need your help quickly because we are rapidly approaching the deadlines for the grants we qualify for – the earliest of these deadlines being September 15th. Without your help, we may miss our chance to get some major funding. That missed opportunity could delay our project for up to a year.

Your support means the difference between achieving our goals and creating a wonderful film or missing a chance to bring something positive and unique to our area and our local children. If everyone helps out, even just a little bit, it will help get us that much closer to make our project a reality.

Based on the 1914 songbook by Alfred Moffat, Little Songs of Long Ago is the first animated short film from Studio Luke 15 about a lonely, self-concious girl searching for friends and acceptance. The film weaves the melodies and characters of the songbook together to create a touching tale set in early America at the tiny colony of Jamestown, Virginia. Audiences will recognize classic characters and songs including London Bridge Is Falling Down, Old King Cole, Simple Simon and The Crooked Man, and be introduced to old characters and melodies they might not have heard, including Little Polly Flanders and Little Jumping Joan.

Little Songs of Long Ago is now a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of Little Songs of Long Ago may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductable to the extent permitted by law.
